May 3-7 is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize all of the ways our teachers/staff contribute to the lives of our children. Their team effort is what makes it possible for our children to learn.
During this special week, show a McParland Staff Member the appreciation they so richly deserve. Our faculty and staff, in partnership with parents, truly make a difference.
Take some time to do something special for your child's mentor(s). Volunteer some extra time; send in a gift on any given day or do something special every day of the week. Check with the room mom to see if your child's class is doing something as a whole. If not, maybe you could organize it for the class. A little thought goes a long way!
The Community Club will be hosting a special luncheon for the McParland Staff and Teachers. If you would like to help out, please contact Christy at the Annex or e-mail us.
E-mail us and give us your suggestions. we'll try and post them!

The origins of National Teacher Day are murky. Around 1944 Arkansas teacher Mattye Whyte Woodridge began corresponding with political and education leaders about the need for a national day to honor teachers. Woodbridge wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt, who in 1953 persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day.
NEA, along with its Kansas and Indiana state affiliates and the Dodge City (Kan.) Local, lobbied Congress to create a national day celebrating teachers. Congress declared March 7, 1980, as National Teacher Day for that year only.
NEA and its affiliates continued to observe National Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March until 1985, when the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day.
Celebrated on the Tuesday of the first full week of May, the actual date varies each year. In 2007, National Teacher Day takes place May 8. For more information about the weeklong celebration, visit the PTA's Web site.

Thank you to our wonderful staff at McParland! Our teachers and staff together, complete our kids. And because of this, National Teacher Appreciation Week was created, so that we could honor YOU!
The Community Club hosted a luncheon for the staff and faculty in the staff lounges at both sites. Volunteers served up a Mexican Fiesta for lunch one day, while giving out small surprises in their mailboxes on other days. A big thank you to the volunteers who were able to make a contribution to this event! Some awesome homemade dishes were served at the luncheon and rumor has it, they were DELICIOSO! Some parents took that extra step and treated their children’s teachers with special gifts. We heard and saw some great things that you did, making your teacher feel extra special. Be sure to e-mail us your ideas, and we will try and share them for next year.

The Community Club hosted a continental breakfast and Italian luncheon for the staff at McParland this week. This was our way of saying THANKS to our teachers and staff members for all they do for our children!
Everyday, teachers and staff members found a 'something special' in their mailbox.
A raffle was added to the luncheon, giving teachers and staff a chance to win a prize.
With the generosity of our dedicated parents and local businesses, Staff Appreciation Week was a success! A huge thank you to the chefs, Tony & Ida Quierolo, and to all of the parents who helped with this event!
Thank you to Kim King, Anna Benham, Julie Lee, Jennifer Cardenas and to the parents who made a dessert contribution.
